I found an old Facebook post. I think this is the only physical proof I have of my first sugar challenge.
I’ve been looking forward to the home made pecan chocolate since I started this challenge, but I haven’t had the tools to make it. Now I’m home. Yesterday, I bought the ingredients. Today, I finally made it.

We had a picnic in the park.
Somebody got us a picnic basket (I love it!) and we got ready. We packed a blanket (that we bought on our last day in Mallorca to use as a towel), delicious food, water and a smoothie, books, and sun hats. The food was SO GOOD! I didn’t miss the sugar at all.
Here’s what I made:
- Vegan pasta salad (lentil pasta, vegan red pesto, cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, vegan feta, pine nuts, and mint chiffonnade)
- Fruit salad (watermelon, strawberry, cucumber, mint, and lime – inspired by Caitlin Shoemaker)
- Home made pecan chocolate (recipe by Deliciously Ella)
- Salted cashews
- Gluten-free/vegan lemon cookies (for my partner, because they did have a bit of sugar)
- Dates
- Trail mix

I LOVE these little special moments, and I love making food for the people I care about. This was the best Sunday date, and I’m really glad we put in the effort! I’m looking forward to more perfect days (not too hot, not too cold) for food-related dates in nature.
With picnics and pecan chocolate,
Flora
